Reviewing Your Exams

One of the best ways to grow and be involved in your own learning is to review your assignments and exams after they have been graded. From detailed comments to a simple mark of correction, that feedback is valuable.

We encourage every IU High School student to review their graded work - especially when it comes to exams. In order to maintain the integrity of our exams, IU High School does not allow students unlimited access to their exams. However you do have the right to review your proctored exams under the supervision of a proctor, and doing so will help you decide how to better prepare for upcoming assignments or exam retakes, as well as to help you identify concepts that you may wish to study in more depth.

Your exam review will be proctored using Examity, an online proctoring service. This service requires the use of a web-cam. You can read more about Examity here.
If you do not wish to use Examity, you can use an alternative in-person proctor.

To schedule an exam review, send an e-mail to our Exams Coordinator at ASKIUHS@indiana.edu with the subject-line Exam Review Request. Include the following information:

  • your first and last name
  • the full name of the course
  • the name of the exam you wish to review
  • Examity as your proctor, or otherwise include the name and contact information (e-mail, phone number, address, job title) of your in-person proctor.

When we receive this information, we will send an email confirming the request and instructions to follow for the review.

Alternative proctors must follow the IU High School proctor guidelines, which you can review here. As a reminder, teachers, relatives, friends, tutors, coaches, educational consultants, supervisors, employees, and work colleagues of the student or the student's family members cannot supervise an exam.

During an exam review, you have up to 30 minutes to view your graded exam. You may be accompanied by one other person (such as a parent or guardian, or a tutor) during the review. Either of you may take general notes on a single 3"x5" index card (or the equivalent), but you may not copy questions, nor can you take photographs or otherwise attempt to reproduce any of the exam. Notes may only be taken on ONE 3"x5" index card during the exam review session. Be sure to focus your note-taking on the subjects or topics where you need the most improvement.

Retake guidelines (first exam in the course) #

If you decide to request a retake after completing your first exam, please keep the following in mind:

  • You should request the retake from the IUHS exams department within 30 days of your exam grade being posted. The sooner you retake the exam, the more fresh the material will be.

  • You must retake the first exam before you complete the course and take the final exam.

Retake guidelines (subsequent exams) #

In order to retake exams subsequent to the first, you have to send an appeal to the IUHS principal that describes the extenuating circumstances which you believe warrant the retake and that provides supporting documentation (e.g., statement from a physician, school official, or exam supervisor). Send your appeal to askiuhs@indiana.edu.

How to Request a Retake #

Follow the instructions in the course syllabus. Be sure to indicate that your request is for a retake. Contact 1(800)334-1011 if you need assistance.
