Grading Scale

How IU High School calculates grades:

All assignments, quizzes and exams earn grades as either points or a percentage. All grades are then combined to compute a final grade for the course. (Course-specific details can be found in each course.) Letter grades are calculated and assigned as follows:

Percent Grade
97-100 A+
93-96 A
90-92 A-
87-89 B+
83-86 B
80-82 B-
77-79 C+
73-76 C
70-72 C-
67-69 D+
63-66 D
60-62 D-
0-59 F

Based on the grading scale above, IU High School calculates your GPA as shown below:

Grade Credit Points per Hour
A+ & A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D+ 1.3
D 1.0
D- 0.7
F 0.0

Note: If you choose to retake a course your transcript will only show the higher of the two grades, unless the original grade was an F. In that case the F will show separately as an Fx.

Find out where you can see your lesson and exam grades, as well as when you can expect to receive them, under lesson grading and exam grading.

Criteria #

The introduction of each course explains the course's grading criteria. Your instructor will put a letter or number grade, along with comments, on each lesson returned to you.

If you haven’t done part of a lesson, your instructor may assign a lower grade, or they may return the lesson with a grade of I (Incomplete) and ask you to redo and resubmit it.

Final for Courses #

You have to complete all of your course requirements (lessons and exams) before we will issue a final course grade. Once you've completed your requirements and your instructor has posted your final grade, you will receive an email message.

You may see all your course grades on your transcript in Genius SIS. Log into Genius and click on the View Transcript link on the left side menu.

Important: If you have a deadline for receiving your final course grade, keep in mind that you must complete all course requirements at least ten days before you need your final course grade.
