In alignment with new Indiana Department of Education diploma requirements, IUHS is implementing two new accredited diploma options for diploma seeking students as of July 1, 2025. Students in the Diploma program previous to this date can continue pursuing their original diplomas.
IU High School's previous diplomas were based on the Indiana Core 40 standards. You can compare Indiana's Core 40 requirements to the New Diploma requirements here.
To earn an Indiana University High School diploma, you now must successfully complete at least 42 credits in various subject areas. At least 10 credits must be earned through IUHS courses.
Students joining the IUHS Diploma Program after July 1, 2025 can choose either Diploma option below:
Both Diploma options include Personalized Electives, which include a range of courses such as Career & Technical Education (CTE), Performing or Fine Arts, World Languages, or approved transferable courses from external schools. Additionally, once the required credits for a core academic subject have been fulfilled, any further coursework in that category may be applied toward personalized elective credit.
IMPORTANT: All diploma students may have a maximum of five courses in progress at any one time, or a maximum of six courses for Honors students. There is no minimum number, but students must keep in mind the number of courses needed per year to meet their anticipated graduation date.
The new diploma structure includes a base (minimum requirements) for every student, plus the opportunity to earn readiness seals aligned with their unique path. Students are encouraged to seize this flexibility by personalizing their high school experience.
