Credit Requirements & Diploma Options #

To earn an Indiana University High School diploma, you have to successfully complete at least 40 (47 for Honors) credits in various subject areas. At least 10 credits must be earned through IUHS courses. As an IUHS student, you can select from any of three diploma options, all of which lead to an accredited diploma. The option you select determines the requirements you have to fulfill. Your options include

The general education diploma is recommended for students who do not plan to go to college. Use the general education planning list below to help decide what courses to take and when.

General Education Diploma Requirements #

Language Arts
8 credits in literature, speech, and composition, including the required:

  • English 9
  • English 10

Mathematics
4 credits:

Recommended:

  • Pre-Algebra (Basic Mathematics)
  • Algebra I

OR

  • Algebra I
  • Geometry OR Algebra II

Science

  • 2 credits from life science
  • 2 credits from physical science

Social Studies
6 required credits:

  • World History OR Geography and History of the World 
  • U.S. History 
  • U.S. Economics 
  • U.S. Government 

Health Education

1 credit:
  • Health and Wellness

Life Skills

4 credits:

  • Personal & Professional Development
  • Consumer Economics
  • Civics
  • Ethnic Studies

13 credits including:
